Greetings Fellow J105 Sailors,
As we all think about getting ready for Spring sailing, Fleet 6 management over the past few months has been busy preparing for an active 2018 season, and we have much to report.
a.) For most of you who are (still) on Facebook, we are happy to announce that we now have our own J105 Fleet 6 Facebook site. Check it out below, follow it, and send it to your crew to follow as well. We will try to keep it updated , and along with your input it will be a convenient and easy source of info, photo sharing and interaction with fellow fleet members.
b.) Speaking of social media interaction, we have also launched a Facebook Fleet 6 Owners Group.
This is a private discussion group for J/105 owners and Class Association members of J/105 Fleet 6 Long Island Sound. Owners, Association members from neighboring Fleets are also permitted to participate on a case-by-case basis. You can all ask questions, submit ideas, post notifications and more.
Check them out, and I suggest you hit "Notifications" on each so you know when new announcements are posted.
c.) Next on the digital scene, we are very proud to launch our new Fleet 6 website.
All you need to do is visit the site, and I guarantee you will have an appreciation for what went into this. It is at this point the best J Fleet site in the country! Of course I may be slightly biased but that's my story and I'm sticking with it, and I think you will, too.
* With all these new platforms of communication and promotion now in place, I must give a HUGE shout out to fellow Fleet member, Max Kalehoff (LauraBea). Max is responsible for everything above, and IMHO has already won the Fleet 6 MVP award for 2018! (If he is crossing you close on port, let him go!) (1 time only)
d.) Sailing World - Not that the J105 needs any further validation as one of the best one-design keel boats in the world, but SW recently put out a cool article about our class.
Check it out here.
e.) Moving forward, we are hereby confirming there will be an annual Fleet 6 Season Championship.
It will be a standard scoring formula, with participation in 51% of the sailing dates required to qualify. Dave Price (Trifecta) has volunteered as the official scorer, and more details defining the scoring system will follow soon.
f.) Mark the date! - Saturday,11/10/18, 6:30pm @ Harlem YC. That is your Fleet 6 Awards Dinner!
We will have a buffet dinner ... details will follow as we get closer, but our plan is to keep the "per head" cost low so you can invite spouses and crew. We have a few bucks in our treasury to supplement the event cost, so count on this being a lot of bang for buck.
We plan to recognize more than a few boats in various categories, leading up the Fleet Champ presentation.
During the season be sure to take photos, and notes of anything special that is worthy of recognition, even if (especially) tongue in cheek.
g.) And finally, it's time to pony up a few bucks and renew your membership. We need your support, so I am asking you all to pay your Fleet and Class Dues now, it's easy, just click here. Support the Class, and support the Fleet!
Any questions, check in with our Fleet Treasurer, Richie Palmer.
That's all I got for now. As always, any questions, feel free to contact me.
